Three of the Biggest Mistakes Most Internet Marketers Make

Hey Friend,

They say, the only way not to make mistakes is not to do anything, right? Still, it comes handy if you know how to avoid some of the most common mistakes that affiliate marketers make so that you can preserve the integrity of your business.

Selling to the Wrong Audience

The first mistake most newbie affiliate marketers make is to try to market your products to people who don’t want them.

This is why it is important to use “permission lists” only. Permission lists are groups of email addresses of people who have given you their permission — either explicitly or implicitly — for you to send emails promoting your products.

Examples of explicit permission would include lists compiled of people who respond affirmatively to your inquiry, “Can we send you more information about promotions and special offers for our products?” Implicit permission examples would include people who enter their email address on your squeeze page.

Know Your Customers

Know Your Audience

When you purchase an email list from somebody else, for example, you are paying for a list of indifferent customers.

If the list is big enough — such as thousands or tens of thousands of addresses — sending promotional emails to everybody on the list probably will result in a very small percentage of responses, possible 1% to 2%.

But the cost of reaching that small percentage of potential customers is alienating everybody else on this list by sending them emails they don’t want and can’t use. You risk being considered a “spammer” and dramatically decrease their willingness to consider any product you offer in the future.

Plus, as we have seen, it can get you banned by the big email providers and perhaps even prosecuted and fined for violating the law.

Not Exploiting Social Media

The second most common pitfall is ignoring social media. This is actually quite common even among established businesses.

Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn offer some of the best ways to contact specific customer groups.

It also offers the ability to develop strong, interpersonal relationships with potential customers. That’s because these platforms tend to be more personalized and intimate than other more traditional marketing platforms.

A Sample Case

For example, assume you have a Facebook page for your business that sells kits for converting your home to solar energy.

The only people who are going to “friend” you on Facebook are people who are passionate about renewable energy sources, reducing them home power costs, and saving the environment.

You can nurture these customers by providing links to informative articles on the topic, hosting forums and web chats for people to share their ideas and resources, and even frequently posting pictures and videos about your personal life in order to establish a lasting bond.

Then, when it comes time to promote your specific products, your Facebook friends — or Twitter followers or LinkedIn contacts … will be very open to the idea of purchasing them because they feel as if they have a personal relationship with you.

Ignore Facebook and Twitter at Your Own Risk

Social media is often ignored by traditional businesses because they assume it is simply for entertainment purposes, is used primarily by younger people who are less willing to spend money, and takes too much time and attention to properly maintain.

All three assumptions are dead wrong. Facebook and Twitter are now considered one of the most effective ways to reach highly targeted prospective customers. The average age of Facebook’s users has risen to 34 years old in recent years.

And social media sites are simple to set up, fun to maintain, and free to use. Ignoring this growing marketing opportunity is a huge mistake because it is only expected to become more dominant during the coming decade.

4 Secret Techniques for Getting Your Customers to Follow Your CTA Every Time

Hey Friend,

Wouldn’t it be nice if people would do what you tell them to do? In real life, that is not happening too often, but there are some rules you could apply to your sales letter web page and have a pretty good results. How? Let’s go over some call to action basics.

Customers always prefer it if you are clear about what you want them to do. They don’t like to have to guess your intentions.

For example, in a sales letter you shouldn’t suggest, but demand how your reader should act. This is referred to as the Call to Action (CTA) and it is the most important part of your sale letter. Everything preceding your CTA should be pushing your reader into taking the action you want them to take: Namely, to purchase your product.

The CTA must be very clear and very direct. There needs to be no ambiguity as to how you want your prospective customers to act. It is a critical point in the flow of your sales letter. If there is anything confusing or not crystal clear in your CTA, you risk losing your customer forever.

Demanding a Response

CTA

In your CTA, you don’t want to ask your customers to buy your product. You want to demand that they buy your product by presenting it as the only possible solution to whatever product they are experiencing. After you set up the problem, introduce your product as the solution, explain the benefits they will receive if they purchase your product, offer social proof that explains how your product has already improved the lives of others or received the endorsement of authoritative people, offered bonuses to add value to your offer, and offered an unconditional guarantee, there should be no other course of action for them but to buy your product.

Often, the phrase “So what are you waiting for?!” is used right before the CTA. This is often the final push your prospective customers need to act on your clearly-defined CTA: To click on the link to buy your product NOW!

It’s All in the Formatting

Your sales page should be immediately identifiable as a sales page. So you want to avoid strange or unusual formatting that your readers may find off-putting. It’s a good idea – for a lot of reasons – to look at the sales pages your competitors are using.

You can often get formatting ideas from these pages. Another option is to run a Google search on high-converting sales pages and then “borrow” the formatting of those pages for your own. If they are already working for somebody else, those formats probably will work for you as well.

Picking the Best Colors and Fonts

Colors And Fonts

Use standard, neutral colors and familiar fonts on your sales page so that you don’t alienate your visitors. Remember, when they arrive on your page, they are not yet familiar with your product. Do whatever you can to set them at ease.

Video sales letters are another option for you to consider. You don’t need a lot of expensive equipment to create high-converting videos. Your laptop or PC probably already has a built-in camera. It may even be high definition.

If you choose to use a video sales letter – or include a short video on your sales page – write a script that includes all the key elements of your sales letter because the sales techniques are the same for video as they are for text.

Closing the Deal

If your CTA is clear and forceful, your pricing provides a lot of perceived value and is neither higher nor lower than your competitors, and you have engaged your reader on an emotional level to prove that your produce is something they can’t live without, then your sales letter will convert well.

Understanding how to get your customers to follow your CTA will only help increase your sales. If you’d like to have access to even more powerful marketing tips, as well as a way to generate conversion-ready Internet marketing prospects each month, click here to learn about my done-for-you system.
